The president’s first Cabinet reshuffle was in October 2010, just more than a year after taking office, his second in October 2011 and his third in June last year. Tuesday’s overhaul marks his fourth, about 10 months before South Africa’s fifth democratic general election.



Mr Sexwale had backed former ANC deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe in the party’s elective race in Mangaung last year.



Ms Pule has long had a cloud of allegations of corruption hanging over her — including that her boyfriend received access to funds raised for the inaugural Information and Communications Technology Indaba held in June last year. He allegedly used the money to buy her Christian Louboutin shoes.



Meanwhile, the mystery surrounding Mr Zuma’s failure to appoint a prosecutions chief has deepened with the news that the Presidency will contest a court action designed to force him to act.



The Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution has launched court action to compel Mr Zuma to fill the post in which Nomgcobo Jiba has been serving in an acting capacity for nine months.



The post of national director of public prosecutions has been vacant since the Democratic Alliance successfully challenged the rationality of Mr Zuma’s appointment of Menzi Simelane and he was forced to leave office.
